Powered by Vital Talk (8 Hour Course) is a workshop that is designed to enhance and improve clinicians communication skills related to goals of care with seriously ill patients and their families. Vital Talk Mastering Tough Conversations is designed to create an environment that supports and nurtures a culture of high-quality care that helps patients and families to achieve their highest priority goals in life. The course targets clinicians who work with patients dealing serious illness. Powered by Vital Talk will introduce clinicians to communication skills through lecture and small group role play with standardized patient actors that will equip them with the necessary skills to navigate the most difficult conversations with patients and families.

1| Clinicians will Describe the skills in the Reframe and Expect Emotion steps of REMAP
2| Clinicians will Recognize informational opportunities and employ skills for information sharing (e.g., headlines)
3| Clinicians will Recognize emotional opportunities and employ appropriate NURSE skills in response
4| Clinicians will Describe the skills in the Mapping, Aligning and Planning steps of REMAP
5| Clinicians will demonstrate the importance of eliciting goals and values prior to making a care plan
6| Clinicians will utilize a variety of open-ended questions to elicit patient goals and values
7|Clinicians will select elicited goals and values back to patients/surrogate and designing a care plan matching goals
