This goal of this workshop it to understand and support autistic children and adults who are experiencing grief. The content will provide community members (professionals, first-responders, family and friends) with a wealth of information about living with autism from an autistic adult and explain how autism impacts the processing of grief and trauma. The workshop will provide strategies and tools to support grieving autistic people.
Learning Objectives
- Explain 3 aspects of autism which may impede the grieving process.
- Discuss 2 different ways autistic people experience grief.
- Describe 3 ways to be culturally competent when supporting an autistic person in grief.
