Introduction to SBIRT Enduring Training Expires January 21, 2026
The purpose of this training is to increase screening of Highmark Wholecare members who are residents in Allegheny County by using SBIRT evidence-based practices to monitor problematic use, misuse, and dependence on alcohol and illegal drugs. Other primary purposes were focused on working to improve linkages to care for patients by using evidence-based substance use treatment resources and options and working to reduce stigma surrounding substance use disorders.

Healthcare Providers (MD, DO, NP, LCSW, etc.)
Learning Objectives
- Define and discuss the core components of SBIRT.
- Describe how screening assesses the risk associated with a patient’s substance use.
- Explain the clinical application of motivational interviewing during a brief intervention.
- Describe how to make an appropriate referral to treatment.
