Highmark Caring Place: Joint Provider-Shattered Schools: When grief and death impact your students- Enduring Material Expires 3.12.24

PRESENTED BY LAURIE SCHERER, M. ED.

SCHOOL SERVICES COORDINATOR/CHILO GRIEF SPECIALIST

Unfortunately, it's a sad reality that it's not "if " death and grief impact your school , it's really a question of "when." More than 90 percent of teachers say that childhood grief is a serious problem , but just seven percent report that they've received any type of bereavement training.

In consulting with schools who have experienced the impact of death and grief in their schools, one thing is abundantly clear-preparing ahead of time is key to effective management when a death strikes your school and/or your students.

In this webinar, you will gain practical knowledge of how to think through the complicated circumstances that occur when your school is impacted by death in some way, and you will learn

strategies of how to support your grieving students when they suffer the loss of someone important to them.

Learning Objectives

  1. Gain an understanding of suggestions and services for schools after the death of a student or staff member.
  2. Explore best practices for communication about grief and loss within schools.
  3. Identify three ways to support a grieving student.
