HEREDITARY CANCERS : FAMILY HISTORY ASSESSMENT, GUIDELINES, MANAGEMENT: Enduring Material
Provide a 1.5 lecture to increase physician knowledge about hereditary breast and ovarian cancer and its relationship to a woman’s family history of breast and ovarian cancer. Review the guidelines (specifically NCCN Genetic/Familial High-Risk Assessment: Breast, Ovarian and Pancreatic v2.2021 guidelines) for patient referrals to genetics. This lecture will focus on women who present to their annual primary care appointment and include information on physician’s assessment of a family history of breast and ovarian cancer.
Target Audience
Board-certified physicians, specifically OB/GYN and PCPs, who are currently employed by the Allegheny Health Network system.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss improve the use of genetic counseling referrals for patients meeting the NCCN HBOC referral criteria.
- Review the referral guidelines and management options for women at an increased risk for breast cancer.
