Drug User Health: More Health, Less Harm
This exciting conference will focus on engaging and retaining persons who use drugs and other substances in health care from primary care to the emergency department to the inpatient units in our hospitals. Substance users and persons with substance use disorders are often stigmatized and poorly understood by many health care providers. This leads to missed opportunities for not only better management of substance related harms but also better management of other chronic diseases and health promotion activities. This stigma and misunderstanding often leads to increased health spending and poor outcomes for substance users that could be avoided. The conference will feature not only new ways of engaging drug users in health care but also new ways for health care providers and substance use treatment providers to think about addiction so they are better prepared to provide high quality health care in a humane and compassionate way. This conference will be a held virtually.
