Challenging Narratives, Changing Systems: The Future of Addiction Care

Target Audience
Professionals who are providing indirect (administrative leadership/management) or direct clinical and non-clinical care to people experiencing addiction, substance use disorder (SUD), and/or other co-occurring behavioral health challenges. This range of professionals would include, but is not limited to: Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors, Mental Health Counselors, Case or Care Managers, Outreach workers, Community Health Workers, Certified Recovery Specialists, Registered Nurses, Advanced Practice Providers, Pharmacists, Psychologists, and Physicians.
Learning Objectives
1. Evaluate emerging evidence-based approaches for the treatment of stimulant use disorders, including pharmacologic and behavioral interventions (I.E. Contingency Management), and identify opportunities for implementation in diverse care settings.
2. Apply current best practices for recognizing and managing substance withdrawal syndromes in the context of an increasingly unpredictable and evolving drug supply, including exposure to xylazine, medetomidine, kratom (7-OH) and other adulterants.
3. Analyze recent public policy and regulatory changes affecting access to medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), specifically methadone, and assess their implications for clinical practice, community-based services, and health system operations.
4. Identify structural and interpersonal forms of stigma that impact individuals with substance use disorders and implement strategies to reduce stigma within healthcare, social service, and community settings.
5. Gain knowledge to develop actionable strategies to advance systems-level change in addiction care delivery, including policy advocacy, workforce development, harm reduction integration, and innovative service models.

Aviary Parking - There is a parking lot behind the National Aviary for cars ($7 fee). The Aviary lot fee may be paid via debit/credit card at the lot kiosk. Please be sure to display the receipt in your windshield. We suggest carpooling whenever possible.
Metered Street Parking is available near the National Aviary. Sections of the following streets near the National Aviary are metered, payable at the meter or through the Go Mobile PGH app: Federal Street, N. Commons, S. Commons, E. Commons, W. Commons, Ridge Avenue, Western Avenue, W. Ohio Street, Brighton Road, Arch Street.
Free Street Parking is available on sections of the following streets: Buena Vista Street, Monterey Street, Resaca Place, N. Taylor Avenue, W. North Avenue.
