Virtual: Powered by Vital Talk-Mastering Tough Conversations Training- November 6, 2024
Learn to communicate effectively and compassionately with patients living with serious illness. Explore best-practice communication methodologies and tools, as well as our rich community of support to better serve the needs of patients with serious illness and their families. Our AHN/Highmark faculty trainers have been certified by Vital Talk to facilitate learning sessions. This session consists of a mix of didactic learning sessions as well as live role play with standardized patient actors.

- Clinicians will Recognize informational opportunities and employ skills for information sharing (e.g., headlines)
- Clinicians will Recognize emotional opportunities and employ appropriate NURSE skills in response
- Clinicians will Describe the skills in the Mapping, Aligning and Planning steps of REMAP
- Clinicians will demonstrate the importance of eliciting goals and values prior to making a care plan
- Clinicians will utilize a variety of open-ended questions to elicit patient goals and values
- Clinicians will select elicited goals and values back to patients/surrogate and designing a care plan matching goals
