AHN PRM Recurrent Urinary Tract Infection in Women-Enduring Material

This lecture will provide up to date recommendations on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections in women and identify factors that increase risk of infection development.

Learning Objectives

1) Recognize UTI and the know the difference between infection and asymptomatic bacteria.

2) Review the most common organisms involved in UTIs and the regional resistance patterns.

3) Identify the appropriate 1st and 2nd line antibiotic treatment options for patients and those with penicillin allergies.

4) Discuss preventative strategies with patients.

5) Discuss when to refer patients with complicating factors including urinary retention, pelvic organ prolapse, and prior prolapse/incontinence procedures.
