Members of hospital ethics committees and palliative medicine providers encounter significant ethical dilemmas facing patients, families, and clinicians. Resolving these dilemmas requires balancing clinical, ethical, legal, and social circumstances. These dilemmas can lead to the need for a formal ethics consultation, often requiring considerable time. This course provides professional development for hospital ethics committee members to possibly forestall this need by adopting a preventive ethics approach in their own clinical settings. This preventive approach seeks to resolve these dilemmas early, as they emerge, ideally avoiding escalation to a formal ethics consultation.
